UNE Associate Provost Karen Houseknecht opens APNA conference with lecture on psychiatric medications research

Associate Provost Karen Houseknecht, Ph.D., was the invited opening speaker at the American Psychiatric Nurses Association's Clinical Pharmacology Institute West (CPI West) conference, which was held in San Diego on March 16.

Houseknecht shared her expertise in pharmacology, metabolic disease physiology and the latest findings from her NIH-funded research program, which helps inform prescribing practices and patient monitoring and well as enhances the understanding of the emerging evidence of the ramifications of highly prescribed psychiatric medications on patient health.

Her address was an encore performance of her talk, "Psychotropic Medications and the Impact on the Bone," which she presented at the National APNA conference in June 2018.

The CPI West conference focuses on continuing medical education training for psychiatric nurses and is strongly marketed as "Planned for Nurses, by Nurses."
