UNESCO Network Demands Communication Strategy, Action Plan

The UNESCO Victorian Creative Cities Network is calling on marketing and communication businesses to express their interest in the development and implementation of a communications strategy and action plan.

Geelong is a member of the UNESCO Victorian Creative Cities Network (VCCN) alongside Ballarat, Bendigo and Melbourne after being named a UNESCO Creative City of Design in 2017.

The VCCN works collaboratively to progress local, regional and international opportunities that provide economic, social, environmental and cultural benefit to these Victorian cities.

A creative communications strategy, and resulting action plan and collateral production, is required to promote the individual strength and initiatives of each of the creative cities while also demonstrating the connection of their work to the Victorian Government's Creative State Strategy 2025.

This expression of interest is inviting experienced communication and/or marketing companies, collaborations, and others with a firm interest in creative industries to submit a response by 6:00pm on Friday 18 August 2023 to design and implement a communications strategy, action plan and supporting collateral.

Geelong's UNESCO City of Design recognition honours our city's exceptional design legacy, which has left a lasting impact on the world. From pioneering designers such as furniture designer Grant Featherston to innovations like the refrigerator and the hills hoist that revolutionized daily life globally, to the exceptional architectural buildings that have shaped our modern existence.

The other Victorian Creative Cities Network designations are Ballarat UNESCO City of Craft and Folk Art (2019), Bendigo UNESCO City of Gastronomy (2019) and Melbourne UNESCO City of Literature (2008).

Mayor Trent Sullivan

This is a terrific opportunity for creative businesses in Greater Geelong to inform the marketing and strategy of the UNESCO Victorian Creative Cities Network.

I encourage all marketing and communications agencies in the region to express their interest in this exciting venture.

This is a chance to propel us forward as Creative Cities that excite our communities and that tourists strive to visit.

Deputy Mayor Anthony Aitken

Geelong is a unique UNESCO City of Design with design remaining a driver of our economy and creative communities.

We want to ensure that awareness of Geelong's credentials is expanded and continue to inspire and influence creative minds worldwide.

We sit alongside UNESCO Creative Cities from around the world and our fellow Victorian local government areas Bendigo, Ballarat and Melbourne whose combined marketing will promote our city-regions as vibrant destinations.
