Unique gold mining map provides wealth of historic information

A unique gold mining map of Sebastopol and Buninyong that reveals gold shafts, and how much gold was mined from each location, will be unveiled on the walls of Sebastopol Library tomorrow.

The map is a copy of a map hand-drawn by creators Arthur James Jenkins and Evan David Jenkins.

The map will be displayed on the wall of Sebastopol Library, showcasing the rich mining history of Sebastopol and Buninyong. The map provides a wealth of information for residents about the city's historic gold rush past.

Libraries, such as Sebastopol Library, are caretakers of historical treasures. Libraries are also welcoming and flexible spaces designed to assist the community to connect, engage and discover learning and digital skills by providing free resources and services.

Sebastopol Library last week celebrated the launch of its Libraries After Dark project. The library will open until 10pm every Thursday night for the next two years, each time featuring a special free program or activity and light refreshments.

The initiative strengthens libraries' function as community loungerooms - places of welcome, warmth and inclusion.
