University of Warwick Advances Ukraine's Educational Transformation

The University of Warwick is gearing up to commence the second module of the Leadership for Educational Transformation Programme for Ukraine, coinciding with the imminent second anniversary of the Russian invasion.

Founded by Dr Bo Kelestyn, this groundbreaking initiative remains the world's first-of-its-kind Leadership for Educational Transformation Programme dedicated to Ukraine. The upcoming module, focusing on leadership roles and responsibilities to organisational staff resilience, promises to be a pivotal step in reshaping the educational landscape of Ukraine.

As part of the immersive learning experience, designed and led by the Programme Lead, Professor Gwen van der Velden, participants will be welcomed by Vice Chancellor, Professor Stuart Croft, before connecting virtually with the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, Oksen Lisovyi.

Among the participants joining the programme face to face, will be Deputy Ministers for Education and the Economy of Ukraine. Later in the week, attendees will visit the Lawrence Sheriff School, a local school in Rugby, gaining invaluable insights into practical applications of the programme's principles.

Professor Van der Velden, the Programme Lead, expressed her enthusiasm for the ongoing impact of the initiative: "We are already seeing the impact of the programme in the work of participants in Ukraine. Mentoring schemes, educational programmes for fostering families, educational courses for displaced learners and work on new forms of governance and community engagement are being set up Ukraine wide.

"The expertise of many Warwick contributors from various disciplines has been crucial to the success of the programme so far, and with the support of the School for Education, Learning and Communication Sciences the work is continuing to develop. We are all looking forward to meeting some new participants as well as welcoming continuing participants again and learn more about how we can continue to support Education in Ukraine in the future!"

After completing the first module, Dr Dmytro Chumachenko, a programme participant, said: "The Leadership for Educational Transformation Programme stands as a beacon of investment in Ukraine's future, positioning it as a formidable contender in the global educational arena."

"It is the most impactful of all initiatives geared towards bolstering Ukraine."

The University of Warwick continues to spearhead international collaborations that empower Ukraine through the reform and rebuild process, and this programme represents a crucial milestone in fostering positive change in Ukraine's educational system.
