The Allan Labor Government is unlocking industrial land across Victoria to create jobs, attract investment, and give business the certainty it needs to grow.
Minister for Planning Sonya Kilkenny today released the Labor Government's 10-Year Plan for Industrial Land, which will help unlock more than 5,800 hectares or more than 2,800 MCGs worth of land for industry to spur on investment and to support businesses across the state.
The 10-year plan sets out when and where land will be released and rezoned, which is backed by faster planning approvals, coordinated infrastructure delivery, and streamlined processes - giving industry confidence to invest.
To boost economic activity, particularly in the northern and western growth corridors of Melbourne and regional Victoria, the plan will protect the most valuable tracts of industrial land through zoning controls. This land will enable industries such as freight, logistics and manufacturing to grow.
The plan will deliver a pipeline of employment precincts across Melbourne's greenfields - unlocking space for industry to create the capacity for around 100,000 jobs by 2035.
Planning is underway to unlock key sites in Merrifield North, Derrimut Fields, Altona North and Hastings, along with regional employment precincts in Ballarat, Bendigo, Parwan, and Avalon.
As a key part of the Labor Government's Economic Growth Statement, the plan is expected to unlock around $9.5 billion in new investment once fully developed - driving confidence, attracting capital, and boosting economic growth across the state.
The Government is accelerating rezoning through the new Industrial Land Gateway Service, which allows parts of unzoned precincts to be brought forward when planning and infrastructure requirements can be met. This fast-tracks industrial land that is shovel-ready - reducing red tape and enabling development sooner.
To help local councils get regional sites shovel-ready, the Government has also established a $10 million Trunk Infrastructure Fund - connecting land to power, water and road networks so businesses can hit the ground running.
