UPDATE: Invercargill incident

As stated by Superintendent Paul Basham, Southern District Commander:

A 45-year-old man is facing a number of charges in relation to an incident in Invercargill on Saturday 19 March.

The man, who remains in hospital in a stable condition after being shot by Police, appeared in Invercargill District Court by audio-visual link yesterday.

He is charged with assault with intent to rob, intentional damage, possession of an offensive weapon, reckless driving, and driving while disqualified.

He has been remanded in custody and is next due to appear on 28 March.

Police are continuing to investigate the events of Saturday morning.

As part of our enquiries, we yesterday issued an appeal for the occupants of two vehicles to contact us.

We have now identified the driver of the utility, however we would still like to identify the occupants of a black people mover, which was travelling south towards Invercargill and was stopped near the incident as it occurred.
