Update: Motorists stranded in flood waters near Middleton

The four people who were stranded near Middleton have been rescued and are now at Winton.

It is understood the four people were European tourists and unfamiliar with the area.

The flooded Diamantina River is now hundreds of metres wide and a private property owner used his helicopter to rescue the four people and transport them across the flooded water.

One vehicle had driven into the water with two of the people who managed to get out and to safety. A second and unrelated vehicle with two other tourists arrived shortly after and contacted emergency services yesterday for assistance.

All four people are now safe.

With the large rainfall in western and northern Queensland people are reminded, if it flooded, forget it.
