It's a siren song for students, a tornado for teachers and an enigma for educational institutions. Artificial intelligence made a splash when it came out in late 2022 and is now a fixture in university studies, forcing schools to rethink their teaching methods and assessment systems. More fundamentally, AI is a reckoning, as it challenges our very conception of knowledge and analytical thinking.
Explore our online report in a new interactive format. we examine the impact of AI on our degree programs from the perspective of three different groups - EPFL students, teachers and learning experts.
You will discover the survey conducted by student representatives, which reveals that the vast majority of our students use AI, while remaining aware of its limitations and impacts. On the teachers' side, testimonials and a video discussion between two professors show that they are figuring out ways of working it into their courses.
Finally, we gave voice to our School's learning experts, who want to give students "a compass rather than a map," encouraging them to ask the following question: "Is AI helping me learn, or is it doing the learning for me?"
