Updated Trajectory For Low Energy Buildings

Dept of Climate Change, Energy, Environment & Water

The Energy and Climate Change Ministerial Council (ECMC) updated the Trajectory for Low Energy Buildings.

The Trajectory guides work towards a net zero emissions building sector by 2050 with low energy costs and improved comfort and health for all Australians. It does this, while achieving five 5 objectives:

  • reduce energy costs for households and businesses
  • drive emissions towards net zero
  • reduce and manage demand on the electricity grid
  • keep people healthy, comfortable and safe from climate hazards
  • ensure all Australians have access to the benefits of improved energy performance.

In 2019, Commonwealth, State and Territory governments agreed to a plan for low energy buildings, aiming for zero energy and low carbon buildings by 2050.

The 2025 update provides an opportunity to build on the ambition laid out in 2019 to:

  • cut buildings emissions
  • cut energy use
  • ensure safety
  • ensure sustainability
  • ensure productivity.
