Updated Directions have been issued for both Gatherings and Non-Essential Business and Other Activities.

Notable amendments include updates to restrictions around indoor and outdoor dining, the opening of drive-in cinemas, an increase in the number of people permitted in swimming pools and clarification around council meetings as gatherings.

The Emergency Management (Non-Essential Business and Other Activities No 5) (COVID-19) Direction 2020 has been revoked and replaced by the Emergency Management (Non-Essential Business and Other Activities No 6) (COVID-19) Direction 2020.

Updates to this Non-Essential Business and Other Activities Direction include:

  • Indoor Dining will now be permitted for up to 10 people indoors and 10 people outdoors provided density provisions (one person per 4 square metres) are met.
  • Alcohol will be permitted for indoor and outdoor dining. However this will only be for premises that hold a restaurant or café licence under Liquor Licence Act.
  • Drive-in cinemas will be able to open. Food and beverages can be sold and consumed provided they are taken back to cars for consumption.
  • There will be an increase in the number of people permitted at swimming pools. The cap per pool will be moved from 10 to 20 persons and all types of water activities, not just swimming, will be permitted, provided density provisions can be met. Facilities that have multiple pools can have up to 20 people per pool (groups of no more than 10 per pool), density provisions apply.

The Emergency Management (Gatherings No 2) (COVID-19) Direction 2020 has also been revoked and replaced by Emergency Management (Gatherings No 3) (COVID-19) Direction 2020.

Updates to this Gatherings Direction include confirmation that council meetings are not included as prohibited gatherings. However members of the gallery must not exceed 10 people and comply with the density provisions.

The aforementioned Directions will both come into effect at 12:01am on Friday 22 May.
