US Labels Kosovan Official Nexhat Krasniqi as Corrupt

Department of State

The United States is designating Nexhat Krasniqi, the former Director of the Department of Procurement at the Kosovo Ministry of Trade and Industry, as generally ineligible for entry into the United States, due to his involvement in significant corruption. As a public official responsible for oversight of procurement contracts, Krasniqi abused his public position by accepting bribes in exchange for awarding a contract permitting the construction of an industrial park in the Drenas municipality by the operating company Eltoni.

Today's action demonstrates the United States stands with those in Kosovo who seek accountability of corrupt public officials. This designation reaffirms the U.S. commitment to counter corruption, which harms the public interest, hampers countries' economic prosperity, and curtails the ability of governments to respond effectively to the needs of their people.

These public designations are made under Section 7031(c) of the Department of State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Appropriations Act, 2023, as carried forward by the Continuing Appropriations Act, 2024 (Div. A, P.L. 118-15). The Department is also designating Krasniqi's children, Aulona Krasniqi and Olti Krasniqi, as generally ineligible for entry into the United States.
