UN Women regrets the decision of the United States of America to withdraw from the UN Women Executive Board.
Since the establishment of UN Women, our partnership with the United States of America has contributed to advancing gender equality and the rights of women and girls worldwide, strengthening laws and institutions, expanding women's leadership and economic empowerment, advancing work on women, peace and security, strengthening efforts to end violence against women and girls, and supporting women and girls in conflict-affected settings.
Gender equality is the foundation of peace, development, economic stability, and democratic governance. At a moment of intensifying backlash against women's rights and widening global inequalities, sustained international leadership and multilateral cooperation remain essential.
UN Women remains committed to a constructive dialogue with the United States of America, as with all Member States. We will continue to deliver on our mandate to advance gender equality, protect and promote the rights of all women and girls, in partnership with governments, civil society, the private sector, and the United Nations system.
