A total of 3,613,053 vaccinations have been administered at more than 5,320 sites across the country.
As of today, 6,409,010 vaccine doses have been delivered to these sites by the Australian Government.
Last week saw vaccines become available to all people in Australia 50 years and over. This contributed to our biggest week so far, with more than 510,000 doses administered across the country.
This included the largest daily increase in reported doses so far in the program of 101,146 doses on Thursday 20 May, on the back of a record day of doses administered through primary care of 59,583.
Since the recalibration of the rollout, we have continued to increase our capacity, and the rate at which people in Australia are getting vaccinated.
One of the key improvements we have made is increasing the supply of doses to sites across the country, and making deliveries to vaccination sites earlier. This means that sites can have their doses in the fridge well in advance of when they are scheduled to dispense them to patients.
This improvement assists both healthcare providers and patients with a smooth vaccination process. As a result of these earlier deliveries, there is more stock on hand at sites across the country, providing increased levels of confidence in the forward supply.
With 12 weeks of information now at our disposal, and as part of our commitment to continued improvement of our operations, we have been closely monitoring usage rates at individual sites to better inform allocations and deliveries nationwide. This helps to ensure that we are getting the vaccines where they are needed the most, and protecting more Australians.
This week, following an initial increase to allocations on the 5 May, there will be additional targeted allocations to more than 1,300 primary care sites who have continually utilised more than 80% of the vaccines available to them.
Supplying and producing the vaccine
Last week, 352,170 doses of Pfizer and 1,019,100 doses of AstraZeneca were released.
Over the coming days, the Therapeutic Goods Administration will conduct sample testing of 352,170 doses of Pfizer vaccine which arrived in Australia last night, along with another 1 million doses of AstraZeneca produced onshore by CSL, prior to releasing the vaccines for distribution.
Distributing the vaccine
Last week, more than 969,000 vaccine doses were delivered across Australia to metropolitan, rural and remote locations, along with nearly 2,500 deliveries of consumables.
- Ordering and Delivery. 99.9% of vaccine orders were completed last week with 1 orders to be finalised today.
- Australia's assistance to the Pacific. This week another 70,000 doses were made available for distribution to the Pacific, with more than 128,000 doses now distributed.
Administering the vaccine
Last week, a record number of doses were administered nationwide, with more than 510,000 doses taking the total to 3,613,053.
An analysis of the data demonstrates a significant weekday average increase of more than 13,000 doses per day compared to the previous week. This resulted from a week on week increase in Pfizer vaccinations to those under 50, as well as another increase in the rate of AstraZeneca vaccinations in those aged 50-69.
- Total sites. We have 4,397 general practices, 136 Commonwealth Vaccination Clinics (CVCs - formerly GPRCs) and 153 Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services currently delivering vaccines, along with 643 state and territory sites, taking the total number of vaccination sites across the country to 5,329.
- Aged Care. With our vaccine workforce service providers, we continue to focus on those most at risk in our residential aged care facilities, and have now completed first dose visits to 2,411 facilities (95%) and 1,711 second dose visits (67%).
- Disability. We are also ramping up our visits to disability residents with complex needs who require in-reach services, with 46 visits conducted last week and more than 200 planned for this week. So far, 5,855 people in residential disability care have received at least one dose.
The VOC remains focused on supporting vaccinations to protect our most vulnerable Australians, every day, by ensuring the vaccines we have, are available across the country, when and were required.
