Cardinia Shire Council is aware of the vandalism that took place at Toomuc Recreation Reserve on Monday 6 April that has resulted in a power outage to the entire reserve, including Cardinia Life.
The reserve's substation handles and padlocks were damaged, with vandals cutting power to the entire site, attempting to steal copper cables. AusNet has been notified and will attend the site as soon as possible for repairs.
As a result, there is currently no power to buildings and services at Toomuc Recreation Reserve and Cardinia Life. Both facilities will remain closed until power can be safely reinstated.
A generator will be placed on site today to maintain critical sewer services while the extent of the damage is assessed. Security has also been deployed at the site.
Aligned Leisure and the relevant sporting clubs have been updated and Council will continue to communicate with the affected groups on any impacts to their activities.
Council is continuing to investigate the incident and is working closely with Victoria Police.
This incident forms part of a recent increase in vandalism across Cardinia Shire reserves, with damage also reported at Holm Park Recreation Reserve, Gembrook Recreation Reserve, Cardinia Recreation Reserve and Lang Lang Recreation Reserve in recent months.
