Vermont theft and deceptions

Whitehorse Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the theft of a credit card in Vermont and subsequent deceptions, Victoria Police say.

Investigators have been told a vehicle parked on Morack Road had been ransacked sometime between 8am on 8 June and 6pm on 9 June, with a wallet stolen from the centre console.

A credit card belonging to the victim, a 64-year-old man, was later used at a number of locations on 9 June, including multiple retailers at the Forest Hill Chase Shopping Centre on the corner of Canterbury Road and Mahoneys Road, Forest Hill.

The items were purchased between 8.15am and 9.30am and ranged from lamps and hats to food and cigarettes.

The card was again used at retail stores at Eastland Shopping Centre in Ringwood between about midday and 12.20pm that day, and again at the Mitcham Shopping Centre just after 2pm.

Police have released images of a man they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.

The hat pictured in the photo is also believed to have been purchased with the stolen credit card at a Forest Hill outlet.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
