Victoria Saddles Up For McLeod's Daughters

VIC Premier

One of Australia's most-loved television dramas is coming to Victoria thanks to the Carroll Labor Government.

Minister for Creative Industries Vicki Ward today announced that the reboot of McLeod's Daughters will be filmed in regional Victoria and produced by local company Werner Film Productions.

It's thanks to Labor's $6 million boost to VicScreen's Victorian Production Fund.

The series will film almost entirely in regional Victoria, showcasing local landscapes, communities and culture.

VicScreen is calling on communities to submit images of their film-friendly towns as the search for locations begins.

The original McLeod's Daughters was filmed in South Australia, ran for eight seasons and 224 episodes, and was broadcast in over 100 countries.

Production will pump up to $35 million into the Victorian economy and create up to 900 jobs.

That means more work for local accommodation, hospitality, transport, construction and hire businesses.

The production will help build the next generation of Victorian screen talent, with emerging and mid-career practitioners gaining placements, attachments and on-the-job experience.

New Deloitte Access Economics analysis released today shows Victoria's screen sector contributed $3 billion to the economy and supported 21,100 full-time equivalent jobs in 2024-25.

Since 2018-19, the value of Victoria's film, television and online production sector has grown 79 per cent in real terms, while games production has grown 103 per cent.

One Nation says it will abolish VicScreen, scrapping the very agency that is bringing McLeod's Daughters to regional Victoria. Labor is backing Victorian jobs and stories while One Nation is shutting the door on them.

As stated by Minister for Creative Industries Vicki Ward

"McLeod's Daughters is one of our most-loved dramas, and Victoria is the perfect place to bring it back to life."

"We're backing local screen jobs and businesses, while One Nation would abolish VicScreen and shut the door on projects like this."

As stated by Minister for Rural and Regional Development Michaela Settle

"We're searching for locations and want to hear from regional communities who'd love to see their town on screen."

As stated by Joanna Werner, Werner Film Productions

"Regional Victoria offers stunning landscapes, outstanding talent and world-class crews, and we can't wait to partner with VicScreen to showcase the timeless beauty of the Victorian countryside."

As stated by Michael Healy, Executive Director of Entertainment, Nine Entertainment

"We are thrilled to bring this iconic series to a new home in regional Victoria, placing its stunning landscapes and vibrant local communities at the very heart of this next chapter."
