Destination NSW Chief Executive Officer and Vivid Sydney Executive Producer, Sandra Chipchase, said it was a unique opportunity for young people to gain valuable insights and inspiration to map their future career pathways.
"This exciting initiative will enable students and their teachers to meet the professionals behind Vivid Sydney's iconic building projections and Light Walk installations, and to hear from artists, designers and technicians about their career paths and how they harnessed opportunities to build their skills for future projects and employment," Ms Chipchase said.
"In its eleventh year, Vivid Sydney continues to evolve and prove itself as a leader in the field of creativity and innovation. By engaging with the next generation of artists, producers and designers, Vivid Sydney is supporting the growth of creative industries into the future."
Vivid School will run up to four full-day school programs from Monday 27 to Thursday 30 May. Each day will feature two sessions on the following themes:
- Careers In Projection Art Including Animation And Technical Projection
- So You Want A Career In Light & Technology Sculpture
- The Value Of Creating Collaborative Art
- Delicate Pixel Work (Girls Putting The 'A' (Art) In STEAM)
"Vivid School is also an opportunity for inquisitive STEM students and budding artists to branch out and explore how their talents could transfer into creative industries. The connections between art, technology, science and design are many and varied as these students will see," Ms Chipchase said.
Vivid Sydney is Australia's largest event and in 2018 welcomed 2.25 million attendees over 23 days, delivering $172.9 million in visitor expenditure to the NSW economy.
In 2019 Vivid Sydney will be held from Friday 24 May to Saturday 15 June and the popular Light Walk includes over 50 installations and projections created by more than 100 artists.
Vivid Light Curator Lucy Keeler said the event was a great platform for aspiring artists to be inspired, motivated and connect with like-minded creatives.
"I wish I had the opportunity to participate in Vivid School when I was a student. Any chance to network with professionals already working in projection, production, technology and design is incredibly valuable. It can be a challenging industry to break into, so this head start through Vivid School is fantastic," Ms Keeler said.
School teachers are able to register student groups for these sessions – direct student bookings will not be accepted.
Fees are $35 per student for the day. Teachers that accompany student groups are admitted free of charge at a ratio of 1 teacher to 10 students, while additional teachers/ adults will be required to pay $35.
