Thank you, President Sheinbaum, for hosting us at the 8th EU-Mexico Summit.
It is an important moment, a moment of renewal for our partnership. As we entered this majestic building, we were welcomed by the murals of Diego Rivera. His work captures Mexico's history with a power that few artists have matched.
But his story also reveals the deep connections between Mexico and Europe. Rivera spend fourteen formative years in Europe, studying the Spanish masters in Madrid, admiring the Italian Renaissance in Florence, and building friendships with artists such as Picasso and Modigliani in Paris. When he returned to Mexico, he brought these influences to celebrate what was uniquely and proudly Mexican. And in turn, his work inspired generations of muralists across Europe. This story tells much about our friendship and our shared history. It reflects a constant dialogue across the Atlantic that enriches both sides.
And the same is true of our partnership. Over the years, it has delivered more opportunities, more prosperity and greater security for our peoples. Together, we have promoted open trade, tackled climate change and defended democracy, equality and human rights.
But the world has changed profoundly since our last Summit 11 years ago. Economic coercion, territorial aggression growing pressure on our shared values and interests. Our response must be to adapt and to work even more closely together.
That is what today's Summit is about. We are modernising our Global Agreement. We are bringing strategic investments through Global Gateway. And we are strengthening cooperation across the board. We are building a strategic partnership fit for a new era.
I look forward to our discussions.
