Von Der Leyen Responds to Coalition of Willing Call

European Commission

Today, the partners of the Coalition of the Willing convened to discuss ongoing negotiations toward a just and lasting peace for Ukraine.

In recent days and hours, we have seen solid and encouraging progress.

We welcomed the presence of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio during our call.

We need strong transatlantic cooperation. Because it delivers.

Take the significant impact of our coordinated and successive waves of sanctions against the Russian economy.

They are shrinking the resources Russia has to wage its war of aggression.

And since pressure remains the only language Russia responds to, we will continue to increase it until there is a genuine willingness to engage on a credible path toward peace.

As Europe and its partners are fully engaged in the search for a just and sustainable peace, last night Russia escalated its attacks on Kyiv, with missiles and drones even violating Moldovan and Romanian airspace.

It is yet another reminder that Ukraine's security is Europe's security.

Ukraine's interests are our interests.

They are inseparable.

This is why we will continue to stand firmly by Ukraine in the negotiations ahead.

A central point is the question of financing for Ukraine including the use of the immobilised Russian sovereign assets.
