Voting Begins On New Fire Rescue Victoria Badge

  • Minister for Police and Emergency Services

Victoria's career firefighters are being given the chance to choose the badge for Fire Rescue Victoria, to help shape the identity of our new fire agency, while celebrating the proud heritage of firefighting in Victoria.

A new badge for Fire Rescue Victoria will be a source of significance and pride to our firefighters, and a symbol of safety and trust for the community, which is used to identify first responders in an emergency.

In the next major milestone in the establishment of Fire Rescue Victoria, career firefighters have been asked to vote on their future badge from today.

Career firefighters will choose between 10 designs, each with different features that are relevant to the state of Victoria and the nature of fire and rescue work.

With the establishment of Fire Rescue Victoria, the MFB will cease to exist, and career firefighters will move over from the CFA.

It's important that the new badge acknowledges and celebrates this proud firefighting heritage, while also being a statement about the future and what Fire Rescue Victoria will embody and stand for.

Voting on the badge will remain open until midnight on Sunday, 23 February.

The Andrews Labor Government has been working closely with fire agencies and other stakeholders to prepare for the establishment of Fire Rescue Victoria from July 1.

Fire Rescue Victoria will bring together career firefighters from CFA and MFB under one organisation to lead fire services in metropolitan Melbourne and major regional centres.

The reforms also mean the CFA will be able to better focus on supporting and growing our vital volunteer firefighters across country Victoria.

Laws passed by the Parliament last year provide presumptive rights to cancer compensation for career and volunteer firefighters that have been denied for far too long. This recognises the invaluable service they provide which often requires them to work in inherently dangerous conditions.

As noted by the Minister for Police and Emergency Services Lisa Neville

"We said at the last election we would get on and deliver a more modern fire service for all Victorians - and the new Fire Rescue Victoria badge is another important step in getting this done."

"Our firefighters are the best in the world and this new badge will celebrate our proud firefighting heritage, while also being a statement about the future and what Fire Rescue Victoria will embody."
