WA Aged Care Grows with Loan Scheme Expansion

  • Applications for the Cook Government's $100 million Low-Interest Loan Scheme to boost aged care sector growth is now open
  • Competitive low-interest loans of up to $20 million available for eligible aged care providers
  • A 2025 election commitment - funding will support the construction, upgrade, or refurbishment of aged care facilities across Western Australia
  • Cook Government supporting the wellbeing of all Western Australians

The Cook Government will stimulate growth in the aged care sector to deliver more concessional residential aged care beds for older Western Australians with the launch of the $100 million Low-Interest Loan Scheme (Loan Scheme).

The Loan Scheme offers concessional finance at interest rates below those typically available through commercial lending, allowing aged care providers to build new aged care beds and refurbish and expand aged care infrastructure.

By improving access to affordable finance, the Loan Scheme will accelerate capital investment in residential aged care infrastructure and support industry growth.

The Loan Scheme will also support more efficient service delivery by delivering purpose-built aged care facilities, reducing pressure on health services and improving outcomes for older Western Australians.

This initiative will foster sustainable growth in the aged care sector, support job creation across construction and care services, and deliver broader economic and social benefits for WA as the population ages.

The Loan Scheme is now open, with guidelines available on the Department of Energy and Economic Diversification's website outlining eligibility criteria and application requirements.

Eligible aged care providers can apply for concessional loans of up to $20 million.

As stated by Aged Care and Seniors Minister Simone McGurk:

"All Western Australians deserve access to aged care services, when they need it.

"The launch of the Loan Scheme builds on the Cook Government's commitment to improving health care and support options for older Western Australians.

"Partnering with aged care providers through this Loan Scheme ensures older Western Australians will have access to the high-quality residential aged care they deserve.

"By increasing availability of residential aged care, we will ensure Western Australians can access appropriate aged care support not only in our urban centres but also in regional and remote areas."
