WA Appoints New Chief Health Officer

The state government has appointed Dr Clare Huppatz PSM as Western Australia's new Chief Health Officer (CHO). She succeeds Dr Andrew Robertson PSM.

The state government has appointed Dr Clare Huppatz PSM as Western Australia's new Chief Health Officer (CHO). She succeeds Dr Andrew Robertson PSM.

Dr Huppatz is a senior public health physician with extensive regional, national and international experience – most recently as WA's Deputy Chief Health Officer. Her background spans communicable disease control, emergency preparedness, public health regulation, and preventive health. She has led major public health policy, legislative reform, and emergency response efforts, including a central role in WA's COVID-19 response.

Dedicated to the health of Australians in rural and remote areas, Dr Huppatz has worked across regional Australia, including the Kimberley and Goldfields. She has contributed to World Health Organization missions in the Pacific and Geneva.

Dr Huppatz is committed to improved health outcomes for Aboriginal and rural and remote communities and has a longstanding involvement in community-led programs across regional WA.

Dr Huppatz holds qualifications in General Practice, Public Health, Health Promotion, and Epidemiology, and is a Fellow of the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine.
