Western Australia has taken a significant step towards having its own spaceport with the recipient of the Spaceport Establishment Support Grant announced.
Perth-based Space Angel Pty Ltd was successful in their application and will receive $1.75 million which the company will match.
The grant will support Space Angel to undertake critical site assessments required for planning and regulatory approvals along with developing a business case for its proposed spaceport sites in Western Australia.
Spaceports are sites which are equipped for launching, receiving, testing or maintaining both spacecraft and rockets.
The grant formed a part of the Cook Labor Government's $2 million Made in WA election commitment to accelerate the development of local space industry capability.
In parallel, the government is also undertaking a feasibility study to identify additional locations to establish spaceports in the State.
The announcement reinforces the Cook Labor Government's commitment to putting WA first by building new industries, attracting investment and creating high-value jobs in sectors where WA has strong competitive advantages.
Currently the global space launch services market exceeds US$15 billion and is projected to continue growing 15 per cent as each year passes, creating new opportunities for WA.

"With Space Angel Pty Ltd selected as the recipient of the Spaceport Establishment Support Grant, we can continue progressing plans to establish a spaceport in Western Australia.
