WA Investment and Trade Commissioners now appointed for all regions

  • Nashid Chowdhury appointed as Investment and Trade Commissioner for India-Gulf
  • All four Investment and Trade Commissioners now appointed together with the new Agent General
  • International offices work to boost exports and attract investment into Western Australia
  • Western Australia's full suite of Investment and Trade Commissioners have now been appointed to attract investment and promote trade opportunities for the State.

    The appointment of Nashid Chowdhury as Investment and Trade Commissioner for India-Gulf completes the Commissioner recruitment process.

    Ms Chowdhury will commence an extensive induction and on-boarding program before being deployed to India in April.

    Ms Chowdhury has almost two decades of investment and trade and economic development experience across State, Commonwealth and local government, which has enabled her to develop strong networks within South Asia and the Middle East.

    She has previously resided in the United Arab Emirates and is proficient in Hindi, Bengali and Urdu.

    Ms Chowdhury will join:

    • Krista Dunstan, Investment and Trade Commissioner for ASEAN;
    • Juan Lu, Investment and Trade Commissioner for China;
    • Nicole Fasana, Investment and Trade Commissioner for North East Asia; and
    • John Langoulant AO, Agent General for Western Australia in the United Kingdom/Europe region.

    The Commissioners and Agent General lead Western Australia's trade and investment activities in each region, taking a strategic approach to the markets and opportunities of greatest value to the State.

    In September 2020, the WA Government announced the new hub-and-spoke model for international networks, which was implemented in response to the review and audit of the State's international offices in 2019. This model will enable the Government to foster new investment and trade opportunities in a diverse range of markets and industries in the coming years, as part of the State's focus on diversifying the economy.

    "What Western Australia has to offer the world is unique, and it's important that we have strong advocates in major international markets to promote our great State.

    "Our Commissioners and Agent General play a vital role in driving opportunities for Western Australia in an increasingly competitive investment and trade environment. I am pleased to welcome Nashid to this dynamic team.

    "With all Commissioners now appointed, we can maximise the benefits that our international offices provide to local businesses looking to export to international markets and overseas companies wishing to invest in Western Australia.

    "WA is now poised to physically re-enter our international markets when it is safe to do so. I am excited to work with the Premier, my cabinet colleagues and our international office network under ITWA to deliver real economic outcomes for the State of Western Australia."
