- Two new non-stop flights from Auckland and Johannesburg to Perth announced
- To provide an extra 80,000 inbound seats every year
- Boosts Perth status as the western gateway to Australia
- Supported by the Western Australian Government through Tourism WA
Tens of thousands of extra visitors will be able to travel direct to Perth with two new flight services from Auckland and Johannesburg taking off in December 2025.
Qantas will operate each A330 service three times per week from December, providing more options for travellers from New Zealand and South Africa heading to Western Australia.
The Auckland service, starting from 8 December, will deliver nearly 40,000 extra inbound seats to WA per year from New Zealand, which is the State's third largest international market by visitors, with 83,200 visitors from New Zealand contributing $170 million to WA's economy in 2024.
The Auckland route also opens up a new connection to Perth from the United States via New York City, with the US one of WA's priority global visitor markets.
The route between Johannesburg and Perth, starting from 7 December, will also deliver nearly 40,000 additional inbound seats annually.
There is a large diaspora of both New Zealanders and South Africans in Western Australia, with the services expected to boost visitation from family and friends visiting loved ones in the State.
As of February 2025, international aviation capacity into Western Australia has returned to 122 per cent of pre-pandemic levels.
WA has established or resumed direct connections with 20 global destinations and is currently serviced by 25 international airlines, strengthening Western Australia's position as Australia's western gateway.
