Work will begin by early next year on a $6.2 million project to reclaim land at Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour to deliver improved services and pedestrian access in the southern part of the facility.
The harbour manager, the Department of Transport, has awarded a contract to Western Australian based and owned company Advanteering for the works that will also allow for the future construction of a penholder facility at the harbour.
The company will complete site works which will see the existing southern land backed wharf along Capo D'Orlando Drive extended to create a new platform for the future building, which will include penholder bathrooms, laundry facilities and new public toilets.
The works will also deliver pedestrian improvements with a new dedicated pedestrian path along Capo D'Orlando Drive, services and lighting upgrades and landscaping to improve public amenity and increase safety for users and visitors to the harbour.
This project adds to the State Government's planned investment at the iconic location with the multimillion-dollar replacement of the nearby Jetty 3 which started earlier this year and the planned $5.9 million electrical upgrade at the harbour announced as part of the WA Recovery Plan in 2020.
In July, the Government also released its draft masterplan for the future development of the Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour and the adjoining Challenger and Success Harbours.

"This $6.2 million project adds to the significant investment our Government is making at the Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour, to ensure this iconic location continues to deliver a unique experience for visitors.
"The harbour is already an attractive place to pen a vessel, given its proximity to Rottnest and these improvements will only add to its appeal.
"Together with the work to replace Jetty 3 and the electrical upgrade, we are providing a world-class experience for users to enjoy and benefit from.
"The State's latest investment in the harbour will provide a boost for the economy and jobs with the project anticipated to create 29 jobs consisting of both subcontract and direct employment positions."
