- Larger road train trial between Wubin and Muchea extended until 31 December 2026

The Cook Labor Government has extended two key freight productivity initiatives that are helping keep Western Australia's supply chains moving and supporting regional industries.
The 53.5 metre triple-road train trial operating between Wubin and Muchea on Great Northern Highway has been extended until 31 December 2026, following positive industry feedback and ongoing monitoring of the trial's performance.
The trial was introduced in April to improve freight efficiency along one of Western Australia's most important freight corridors, supporting the movement of goods between Perth and the Wheatbelt, Murchison, Goldfields, Pilbara and Kimberley regions.
The trial included strict safety requirements, including vehicle standards and minimum driver experience requirements.
Arrangements to allow 27.5 metre and 36.5 metre road trains carrying petrol, diesel, fertiliser, lime, lime sand, milk and bulk perishable goods to transport up to an additional 10 tonnes per load have also been extended until 31 December 2026.
Both initiatives were introduced following consultation through the Cook Labor Government's Industry Support Working Group, formed to support WA industries and keep the economy strong amid global fuel security challenges.
Extending these initiatives will continue to improve freight productivity, reduce heavy vehicle movements and fuel use and support the efficient delivery of essential commodities to regional communities and industries.
The measures form part of the Cook Labor Government's broader commitment to maintaining resilient, efficient and safe freight networks that support economic growth across the State.
