A Walmart grant gave 100 members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Bend (BGCBB) the opportunity to attend a recent PRISM concert featuring the Florida State University College of Music and the FSU Marching Chiefs.

Prior to the performance, presented by FSU's Opening Nights, BGCBB members participated in a hands-on educational program in which they could try musical instruments.

"Walmart is committed to offering experiential learning opportunities to students in the communities we serve," said Monesia T. Brown, the company's director of Public Affairs and Government Relations. "I am pleased to continue the partnership with Opening Nights at FSU to enable Boys & Girls Clubs members the exciting opportunity to attend a hands-on music educational program and concert."

FSU Marching Chiefs drum major Jordan Fraze taught the BGCBB members about different instrument families, and music students demonstrated the variety of instruments and played familiar FSU songs. BGCBB members then got to try the instruments.

"Our students always enjoy the PRISM concert," said Kacy Dennis, CEO and president of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Bend. "Providing arts and music experiences helps students to become well-rounded individuals so they can enjoy more fulfilled lives."

It marked the third straight year that Opening Nights at FSU and Walmart partnered to give the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Bend this opportunity.
