  • Cutting-edge facilities to benefit the school's specialist performing arts students and local community
  • Government investing in modern learning facilities to enable WA students to reach their potential

Premier Roger Cook and Education Minister Dr Tony Buti today opened a new high-tech performing arts centre at Wanneroo Secondary College.

The $6.4 million centre includes a dance studio, green room, dedicated audio-video control section, collegiate room to accommodate staff and guests, classroom, restroom facilities, and kitchen.

Wanneroo Secondary College offers a specialist performing arts program for students to develop their skills and creativity in dance, drama, and music.

With these new facilities, students will have exciting opportunities to develop the necessary expertise to move into employment in the performing arts industry.

The new centre will provide students with opportunities to learn a range of skills related to all aspects of performance, including those required front-of-house and backstage, in an industry-standard environment.

It is also a space where students and staff can gather for school events, year group presentations, and staff training.

The new centre is one of 33 education infrastructure build and upgrade projects completed in 2022-23, with a further 13 projects expected to be completed before the end of 2023

As stated by Premier Roger Cook:

"My Government is committed to investing in state-of-the-art education facilities to help Western Australian students reach their potential.

"The impressive new performing arts centre will provide students in the northern suburbs with a modern facility where they can learn their craft and follow their passion.

"I have no doubt performing arts students will excel in this new facility, which will also benefit other students and staff and serve as a venue where they can gather for school events."

As stated by Education Minister Tony Buti:

"I know this fantastic new performing arts centre is a welcome addition, not only for performing arts students, but for the entire school community.

"This project is another example of the Government's commitment to providing WA students with the very best learning facilities.

"I look forward to seeing the creativity of Wanneroo students continue to thrive in this state-of-the-art facility which I am sure will play host to some spectacular performances for many years to come."

As stated by Member for Wanneroo MLA Sabine Winton:

"As a former student of Wanneroo Secondary College, I'm particularly proud of the work we have done to ensure the Wanneroo community has access to high quality learning environments and enhancements like this new performing arts facility."

"Since being elected as the Member for Wanneroo, our Government has delivered a brand-new purpose-built gymnasium and now this incredible performing arts building to complement the school's extraordinary performing arts program.

"There are more than 1,100 students enrolled at Wanneroo Secondary College who will benefit from these new facilities."
