Wanted man extradited from Queensland - Operation Persistence

A man wanted on five outstanding warrants has been extradited from Queensland to NSW to face charges, as part of Operation Persistence.

The 44-year-old man was wanted on outstanding warrants in NSW for traffic, property, domestic violence and drug offences. He is also wanted by police in Victoria and Western Australia.

His first warrant was issued after the man failed to appear before Mullumbimby Local Court in May 2021.

Police conducted inquiries to locate the man, including an attempted arrest in June 2021 at a property on Snows Creek Road, Upper Coopers Creek, inland from Byron Bay.

Since that time, the man has been sighted in the Main Arm, Mullumbimby, and Upper Coopers Creek areas.

Following extensive inquiries, officers from Tweed/ Byron Police District received information that the man was living in Tugan, Queensland.

On Friday 18 March 2022, the man was arrested at Inland Drive, Tugun, in a joint operation involving Australian Federal Police and Queensland Police Service.

Officers attached to Tweed/ Byron Police District travelled to Southport Magistrates Court, where an extradition was granted.

The man was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where the outstanding warrants were executed. He was also charged with further driving and pursuit offences.

He was refused bail to appear in Lismore Bail Court today (Saturday 19 March 2021).

Operation Persistence was launched in January this year (2022) by the State Intelligence Command, who are working with police across the state to locate individuals wanted on outstanding warrants.
