Wardarnji returns to Esplanade Park on Saturday 28 November 2026, bringing the community together for an evening of Nyoongar dance, storytelling and song.
Established in 1998, this much-loved annual festival honours one of the world's oldest living cultures, sharing the richness of Nyoongar traditions with audiences from across the community.
Free to attend and welcoming to all ages, Wardarnji features a dynamic program of traditional and contemporary performances, showcasing dancers young and old. Visitors can also explore market stalls celebrating local Nyoongar artists, makers and small business owners.
Fremantle Mayor Ben Lawver is inviting the community to experience this special celebration of culture, creativity and connection.
"Wardarnji offers a meaningful opportunity to celebrate Nyoongar culture and share the stories, songs and dances of the 14 clan groups of southwest WA.
"It brings people together through powerful performances that honour the knowledge, traditions and enduring connection to Country at the heart of Nyoongar culture.
"We're proud to welcome Wardarnji back to Walyalup Fremantle, on Whadjuk Nyoongar Boodjar, and to support an event that plays such an important role in celebrating and sharing this living culture," Mayor Lawver said.
Led by acclaimed Nyoongar performer and producer Karla Hart, Wardarnji brings together more than 100 performers for a vibrant program blending traditional and contemporary dance.
"Wardarnji is a proud celebration of Nyoongar dance and culture - a powerful showcase of our community's strength that lifts the spirit and feeds the soul," Hart said.
With something for the whole family, market vendors will open from 4pm, followed by performances from 6pm.
Join the community at Esplanade Park on Saturday 28 November for Wardarnji 2026, an evening celebrating Nyoongar culture, stories and the connections that bring us together.
