Warwick Boosts Ties With Hong Kong PolyU

On 20 November, the University of Warwick welcomed a distinguished delegation from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), led by President Jin-Guang Teng. The visit was hosted by Warwick Vice-Chancellor Professor Stuart Croft, who welcomed the opportunity to mark and strengthen the partnership that has connected the two institutions for over 35 years. It was a highlight of One World Warwick, a celebration of the University's global community, its far-reaching impact, and the international partnerships that shape its future.

PolyU is recognised as one of Asia's leading universities, renowned for its strengths in innovation, applied research, and close industry collaboration. Its strategic focus on technology-driven solutions and global partnerships aligns closely with Warwick's mission to deliver research and education with real world impact. This shared commitment has fostered decades of collaboration in joint research, teaching initiatives and student mobility programmes.

A highlight of the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), outlining ambitious plans for future collaboration. Central to these plans is the launch of a Joint Seed Fund, created to encourage and support new research partnerships between academics at both institutions. This fund will provide opportunities for researchers to explore innovative ideas, develop joint projects, and strengthen interdisciplinary connections.

The universities also renewed their Student Mobility Agreement, reaffirming their shared commitment to offering students enriching international experiences. This agreement ensured continued opportunities to study abroad, equipping graduates with the global perspectives and skills needed to succeed in a globally connected world.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Professor Croft highlighted the vital role of international partnerships in advancing academic excellence and creating societal impact:

Our partnership with Hong Kong Polytechnic University is built on a shared belief that collaboration drives innovation and impact.

For 39 years we've worked together to advance research, education, and global opportunities for students.

By renewing our agreements and launching new initiatives, we are not only strengthening our collaboration but also laying the groundwork for research and education that deliver meaningful benefits to society worldwide.

This presidential-level visit represents a significant step in delivering Warwick's international strategy, reinforcing its commitment to building strong, purposeful partnerships across Asia and beyond. With renewed agreements and bold new initiatives, Warwick and PolyU are set to shape the future of education and research through innovation, collaboration and global engagement.
