Western Australia's leading waste-reduction and resource-recovery champions were celebrated at the 2025 WasteSorted Awards last night, recognising outstanding contributions to the State's circular economy.

Announced at the end of the annual Waste and Resource Recovery Conference, the awards honoured individuals and organisations driving down landfill and lifting recovery rates.

The awards spotlights those who are embracing repairing, reusing and recycling and inspiring others to adopt more sustainable behaviours.

This year's 10 award recipients were chosen from 39 finalists across business, schools, community, not-for-profits, and government, reflecting a shared commitment to environmental protection, public health, and a stronger circular economy.

Earthwise Community received the Community Waste Award for actively reducing clothing, textiles and food from landfill, and for inspiring community members to reuse, repair and learn new skills in reducing waste.

Rebecca James won the Waste Champion Award for her trials and research while working at Fremantle Ports, to champion the recycling of waste from cruise ships arriving in Australia.

The State Rehabilitation Services Ward 1A at Fiona Stanley Hospital received the Waste Team Award for trialling and implementing alternatives to single-use plastics, such as paper pill cups, straws and denture cups, in all hospitals in the South Metropolitan Health Service.
