Water interruption for southern Gloucester as upgrade continues

MidCoast Council

Residents and businesses on the southern side of Gloucester will experience an interruption to their water supply on Thursday 20 January, as work on the town’s water upgrade continues.

The interruption will be between 9am and 3pm and will affect properties in the following streets:

• The Bucketts Way from Cemetery Road to Gloucester Tops Road

• Cemetery Road (including the Industrial Area)

• Tate Street

• Kendall Street

• Lowe Street

• Johnson Street

• Jacks Road

• Moonlight Circuit

• Maslens Lane

• Mahogany Drive

• Ironbark Close

• Forbesdale Close

• Grantham Road

• Fairbairns Road

MidCoast Council’s Director of Infrastructure and Engineering Services, Rob Scott, said contractors were progressing steadily on the installation of the new network.

“The community is seeing a lot of activity at the moment and that’s a result of the progress that’s being made,” he said.

“We estimate the six-kilometre rising main that will feed the new reservoirs is around two-thirds complete, and there is pipework going in on several other fronts.”

Mr Scott said further interruptions would be inevitable in the coming months, but efforts would be made to space these events out.

“We understand it’s inconvenient any time there’s an interruption of this size, but this project is ultimately going to deliver a much better level of service to the community.

“Our customer service team is also here to help. If anyone has any concerns about the interruption, or experiences any issues as a result of it, they can contact us on 7955 7777.”

The $21 million Gloucester Water Upgrade will ensure consistent water quality and pressure is supplied throughout the Gloucester network and replace infrastructure that has deteriorated over time.

Work began in June 2021, with the project expected to be completed later this year.
