Water shortage in Fletcher Bay

DOC Operations Manager Nick Kelly says, "We are in the process of delivering trucks of water all the way from Coromandel, which is 80 km away, to help ease the water shortage. However, we are urging locals and tourists to keep water usage to a minimum as we wait for significant rain fall to ease the pressure."

Under water restriction guidelines people are urged to limit their usage of water. Nick Kelly says this means shorter showers and no washing of boats, filling up pools and any other activities that are not essential.

Fletcher Bay located at the top of the Coromandel peninsula is expecting to see an influx of domestic travellers this holiday season.

Nick Kelly says, "We know this is not the news that anyone wants to hear before the busy holiday season, but we all need play our part by practicing water conservation and restricting our usage."
