City of Newcastle has implemented safety precautions in preparation for severe weather forecast to impact the Newcastle coastline over the next 48 hours.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a warning for gale force winds, and large and powerful surf conditions, which may pose a risk to Newcastle's coastline.
City of Newcastle is monitoring its coastal facilities and assets along the coastline, including areas in Stockton, which may be further impacted by coastal erosion. The remedial work at Stockton Beach, including the removal of debris washed onto the beach during two east coast low weather events in early March, has been interrupted by this new weather warning.
Surf and swell conditions are expected to be hazardous for swimming, surfing and rock fishing at all beaches and Merewether Ocean Baths during this period.
Beach accessways at Stockton will remain closed until this weather event passes and City of Newcastle is able to assess the condition of Stockton Beach to implement any further remedial work required to enable accessways to reopen.
