Weekly Weather: Storms In North And Fronts For Tas, Dry In Between

BOM
G'day from the Bureau, here's a look at the weather for the week ahead, from today, Sunday the 12th of October.

And we're in the midst of the most widespread storm outbreak this spring. On Saturday, storms affected the Kimberley, much of the Northern Territory, Central Queensland, and parts of the east coast. Elsewhere, it's been slightly calmer in Tasmania after howling gales on Friday, but today there is another cold front in the south so the wind, rain, hail, and alpine snow will return, and storms are also expected to continue through central and northern Australia from this afternoon.

Monday is a sunny and clear day with a weakening wind in the south. A mix of showers and storms are still expected in across Queensland, the Territory and northern WA, with a chance of severe thunderstorms for south-east Queensland bringing hail and strong wind. Rainfall totals will be very patchy, with most places missing out.

Another day with storms possible in the north on Tuesday and some places will get 20-50mm when a storm forms right overhead, but the vast majority will get less than this, will most seeing none at all. A very hot day in Western Australia, and a cold front brings a band of rain across Tasmania.

On Wednesday, a high-pressure system over New South Wales delivers sunny and settled weather across the south-east, and it's also warming up down there. Showers and storms continue in the north with the risk of locally heavy falls in parts of the Northern Territory and Western Australia.

Thursday will be the warmest day in months for much of southern Australia. The first 30-degree day since autumn for some areas. There will be a little bit of rain, and some cooler temperatures, late in the day. Dry for most of Queensland, with humid conditions and showers right across the north.

And it's looking mostly clear and summery on Friday but there are early indications that another stormy outbreak could build across New South Wales, and it will be cool and windy across Tasmania.

And that's the weather wrap all done for this week, we'll see you again in the next one.
