The Tasmanian Government has welcomed the reopening of The Hobart Clinic, marking an important step forward for private mental health care in Southern Tasmania.
Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Bridget Archer, said the reopening is the direct result of swift action from the Tasmanian Government to commit $2 million in transitional funding.
"With the funding deed now signed and the doors reopening, The Hobart Clinic can move ahead with the work needed to strengthen its long-term sustainability," Minister Archer said.
"Our Government stepped in quickly to secure the Clinic's future within days of receiving a proposal.
"This brings our total investment for The Hobart Clinic to almost $9 million since 2021 to ensure Tasmanians continue to have access to vital private mental health services.
"By comparison, the Federal Government has contributed $0.
"Now that The Hobart Clinic is operating again, we again call on the Federal Assistant Minister for Health, Rebecca White, to work with the Clinic on long-term solutions."
Minister Archer said the government continues to progress broader planning for a resilient mental health system.
"We are engaging with other private providers to expand care options and strengthen mental health services for Tasmanians into the future, while we advance our work to future-proof the public system," Minister Archer said.
"We thank the Clinic's staff, patients and their families and carers for their patience and resilience throughout this period and looks forward to a strong future for the service."
