Wellington welcomes funding for Yarram pool

Wellington Shire Council has welcomed the State Government contribution to the Warmer Pool for Yarram project.

Mayor Alan Hall said the $250,000 Government contribution would allow the project to go ahead, providing a warmer swimming experience for the Yarram community.

"Council has been working with the Yarram community for sometime to find a way to improve the pool infrastructure, which would allow greater use of the swimming pool," Cr Hall said.

"Council has committed $350,000 towards the project, with a local community contribution of $61,000 through the Rotary Club of Yarram.

"This $650,000 project will involve a range of measures to warm the pool water in an energy efficient way."

The project will include the installation of a membrane-clad weather protection shelter to cover both swimming pools and remote controlled café style side blinds.

A green energy water heating system will maintain water temperature during the summer swim season.

"Council is always looking at ways to be more sustainable and a parallel project of installing solar PV cells onto the roof of the adjacent Yarram Hub will help off-set the electrical operating costs of the new heat pumps.
