Wet Weather Update - Tuesday 29 March 2022: Ballina Shire

Due to poor river conditions the Burns Point Ferry CLOSED this morning at 9am and will remain closed until further notice.

Intense rainfall overnight has led to a number of further road closures across Ballina Shire this morning, including:

  • Tamarind Drive Roundabout at the Cumbalum Interchange - CLOSED
  • Tamarind Drive between Gallans Road and Cumbalum Interchange - CLOSED
  • Deadmans Creek at Cumbalum - CLOSED

Please avoid non-essential travel and stay up to date with current road closures and cautions at www.livetraffic.com

Ballina Shire Council staff regularly check roads across our shire and signpost flooded roads however not all urban roads can be signposted - so be aware of changing conditions in your local area.

Sneaths Road, Wollongbar remains closed due to a landslip. Motorists must use an alternate route and are reminded not to move road closure signage.

  • Fernleigh Road @ Tea House
  • Teven Road @ B&B Timbers

BUSLINES UPDATE

Ballina Buslines has advised Council that no school services will be running to Lismore today, however other normal route services are operating at this stage.

SANDBAGS NOW AVAILABLE

Sandbags can be collected from the old council depot on Tamarind Drive. SES members will be onsite to assist with requests. To avoid traffic issues SES Ballina asks that you do not attend the unit.

Sandbags are also available to collect at the Wardell Catholic Church.

If you are unable to collect sandbags you can lodge a request through 132 500.

If you are attending a sandbag collection point please remember to drive to the conditions and keep safe.

COUNCIL SERVICES

Bin collection: Council's Resource Recovery Team will be unable to complete some rural collections today, Tuesday 29 March, where roads are closed due to flooding. This will include:

  • Sections of Ross Lane
  • Old Bangalow Road, Tintenbar
  • Cumbalum Road

Where safe to do so, residents should leave their bins out and these collections will occur as soon as possible.

The Ballina Byron Gateway Airport is open. However, Council is urging passengers to allow extra time when travelling to the airport. Contact airlines directly to check flight information and check for road status updates at www.livetraffic.com before travelling.

Please note the Airport Carpark Upgrade is continuing and parking is still limited.
