WFP Appoints Italian Actress Serena Rossi As Goodwill Ambassador

Italian actor and singer, Serena Rossi was appointed Sunday as Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), a Rome-based agency that works on the frontlines of hunger in 87 countries providing food assistance to people affected by conflict, climate change, and natural disasters.

"Being named a WFP Goodwill Ambassador is a profound commitment for me: I want to use my voice to reach as many people as possible and open their hearts. Because hunger, especially among children, can no longer be ignored. In Gaza, the ceasefire is a first step, but now we must act quickly: families need food, hope, and life," said Serena Rossi.

In this role, Rossi will amplify the voices of the over 300 million people suffering from acute hunger globally and highlight the humanitarian emergencies that WFP works to address daily in many areas of the world, including Sudan, Palestine, and Haiti.

"We are delighted to welcome Serena Rossi as our new Goodwill Ambassador, an artist whose talent and social commitment inspire millions," said Rania Dagash-Kamara, WFP Assistant Executive Director. "Her powerful voice, both on screen and in real life, will help raise awareness among the Italian public about hunger and malnutrition, which affects millions worldwide. Her dedication to humanitarian causes and her ability to engage the public make her contribution invaluable to our global mission."

After Rossi's role in the series Mina Settembre, she continued with performances such as Mia Martini in the film Io sono Mia and with recent film projects such as Il treno dei bambini and Uonderbois. She is also the Italian voice of Anna in Frozen and the star of the SereNata in Naples theater tour, which has sold out major Italian theaters. In addition to her artistic career, Rossi has been involved in social causes for years, supporting charitable initiatives such as Telethon and Spesa Sospesa.

In early 2025, Rossi brought the WFP message to theaters across Italy with her national tour, SereNata in Naples. During her sold-out shows, she invited audiences to support WFP through the ShareTheMeal app, turning each concert into a true platform of solidarity. With spontaneous on-stage interventions and brief appeals for action, the tour engaged thousands of people, demonstrating the enormous potential that cultural awareness can have in the humanitarian field.

Rossi visited recently WFP's global headquarters in Rome and met with WFP leadership and staff to learn about the UN agency's work across its various areas of intervention, from school feeding to building resilience, from emergencies to climate change response activities. She also supported WFP in its Sudan campaign through the WFP ShareTheMeal app, with a series of videos on its social media channels.
