WFP, Türkiye Strengthen Ties to Combat Food Insecurity

On the margins of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Week, the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and the Republic of Türkiye reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in the fight against global hunger.

During a bilateral meeting in New York, WFP Executive Director Cindy McCain and Türkiye's Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Hakan Fidan, discussed practical steps to enhance collaboration, positioning Türkiye as a key humanitarian partner. The meeting underscored Türkiye's new role as an emerging donor.

The meeting explored the potential for a more systematic partnership, including the possibility of Türkiye serving as a strategic grain stock center to enable rapid emergency response.
