WHO Panel Meets to Review Abortion Care Guidelines

The World Health Organization has transitioned the Abortion care guideline to a living guideline format to focus on targeted recommendations that address new evidence or implementation issues as they arise. To this effect, the evidence for repeat dosing for the misoprostol-alone regimen for medical abortion at less than 12 weeks will be revisited (Recommendation 27b). In line with the WHO handbook for guideline development, a subset of the Abortion care guideline's Guideline Development Group (GDG) is being reconvened to assist the WHO Steering Group in this process. The GDG will review the synthesized evidence and formulate an updated recommendations. Of note, members of this GDG for this recommendation arise from the group of experts who had informed the Abortion care guideline and therefore, their updated biographies are being posted.

The biographies of the GDG members are made public for a period of 14 days in line with WHO standards in guideline development.

The public has the opportunity to review the members' biographies and provide comments or signal any potential conflict of interest to the WHO Secretariat by 29 October 2026.
