The British Embassy in Lisbon invites female secondary school students in Portugal to enter a competition to be an Ambassador for a Day.
What is Ambassador For A Day
Have you ever wondered what the day-to-day work of an Ambassador is like? This competition will give the winners the unique opportunity to shadow the Ambassador to Portugal and experience engagements that form the core of a diplomatic mission's work.
Why you should enter this competition
Women and girls represent half of the world's population and potential, yet they remain underrepresented in diplomacy, politics, and business. To change this, we need equality of opportunity and strong voices advocating for progress.
This year marks 640 years of the Treaty of Windsor, a historic milestone in the friendship between the United Kingdom and Portugal, the world's oldest alliance. Throughout the history of this friendship, several extraordinary women have left their mark, such as Philippa of Lancaster, whose vision and influence span centuries.
We want to hear from you: Which British or Portuguese woman inspires you, and how does her example motivate you to make a difference?
By entering, you'll have the chance to step behind the scenes of the British Embassy in Lisbon, shadow the Ambassador, and join inspiring conversations during our International Women's Day celebrations.

You can enter this competition if, on 13 March 2026, you are:
- a female student registered in a secondary school in Portugal
