Artwork by two Winchester School of Art graduates has been picked to be showcased in a regional exhibition.

Creations by art graduates Yasmin Jabi and Grace Atkins are featured in this year's Platform Graduate Awards exhibition at Aspex Portsmouth.

The awards, organised by the Contemporary Visual Arts Network (CVAN) South East, see artwork by 30 graduates from across the south selected for exhibitions at four art galleries. Following the exhibition, four artists will be chosen as winners.

Yasmin, 21, who graduated with a degree in Fine Art in July, is exhibiting work inspired by traditional Palestinian embroidery.

She said: "I feel incredibly honoured to be shortlisted for the Platform Graduate Award. It's exciting to have my work recognised in such a meaningful way, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to share my practice with a wider audience.

"This recognition is also an encouragement to continue pushing my work further, and it means a lot to be part of a platform that supports emerging artists."

Grace, 22, who also graduated in Fine Art this summer, is now studying for a master's in Fine Art at Winchester School of Art. She is exhibiting a painting called The Cowboy that is based on stills and photos from old Western films.

Grace said: "I'm incredibly excited to be shortlisted for the Platform Graduate Award 2025, it's such a great opportunity to exhibit alongside other talented graduating artists and be part of such a vibrant and diverse show.

"I love the chance to explore how my work interacts in different environments and to see the new dialogues that emerge when it's placed in conversation with other pieces."

Oliver Sumner, Manager of CVAN South East, said: "The award has long recognised the quality of emerging practice in the South of England, outside of London. It is about developing greater contact between rising graduate artists and supportive venues in the region. I wish all this year's exhibitors the best of luck as they begin to forge their creative paths."

The exhibition featuring Yasmin and Grace's work is on at Aspex Portsmouth , in Gunwharf Quays, from Friday 24 October to Sunday 30 November.
