Witness vehicle sought in fatal crash investigation

Major Crash investigators would like to speak with the driver of a navy ute seen in the area near a fatal crash in the Riverland.

Investigators stress the ute was in no way involved in the crash at Paringa earlier this month, but they believe the driver may have vital eyewitness testimony about the circumstances leading to the collision.

The ute is possibly a navy 2006 Nissan Navara utility. It was travelling east along the Sturt Highway about 2.45pm on Monday 13 December, having just passed the Paringa Hotel Motel.

Seconds later a Honda sedan and a Honda motorbike collided at the intersection of the Sturt Highway and Murtho Road.

Sadly a pillion passenger on the motorbike, a 62-year-old Paringa woman, died at the scene. The rider, a 66-year-old Paringa man, was taken to the Berri Hospital in a critical condition before being airlifted to the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

The driver of the Honda, a 30-year-old Renmark man, was not injured and was subsequently arrested and charged with aggravated careless driving.

He will face court on 8 March 2022.

Anyone who recognises the vehicle pictured or has information that may help police to identify the ute or driver is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au
