Woman Charged for NSW School, Airport Bomb Threats

Tweed Byron Police have charged a woman over multiple bomb threats to public places across NSW after a multi-agency investigation began early last year.

In March 2025, officers attached to Tweed/Byron Police District commenced an investigation following reports a hoax bomb threat was sent to a school in Murwillumbah.

Following the initial incident, detectives – with assistance from State Crime Command's Cybercrime Squad, the NSW Department of Education, and the Australian Federal Police – investigated 13 other hoax bomb threats sent to NSW schools between March 2025 and May 2026.

As part of this investigation, detectives also investigated two hoax bomb threats sent to airports in NSW and Queensland, which officers believed were linked to the 13 other threats.

Following extensive investigations, multi-agency investigators executed a search warrant at a home on Hall Drive, Murwillumbah, today (Friday 29 May 2026).

During the search, police located and seized multiple electronic devices believed to have been used in the alleged offences.

Following the search, officers arrested 23-year-old woman before taking her to Tweed Heads Police Station.

She was charged use carriage service to make hoax threat (14 counts), use carriage service to threaten serious harm, and possess unregistered firearm-not pistol/prohibited firearm.

The 23-year-old was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Bail Court 1 tomorrow (Saturday 30 January 2026).
