A 46 year old Spreyton woman has been charged with drink driving offences and disqualified from driving for 12 months after she was detected over four times the legal alcohol limit at around 3:00pm yesterday.
Police were alerted by a member of the public about a black Hyundai station wagon on Don Road at Devonport that was seen driving dangerously.
When intercepted by police the woman returned a reading of 0.219 after breath analysis.
"Driving whilst intoxicated puts all road users at risk" said Acting Inspector James Scicluna.
"Drunk driving is dangerous at any time, but the risk increased exponentially given the increased volume of traffic with school pickups at that time of day.
"Road Safety is everyone's responsibility, and I would like to acknowledge the two young adults for their initiative in reporting this behaviour to police and preventing what could have easily been another road tragedy.
"As these people are at the beginning of their driving careers, it is encouraging to know that they are already taking their road safety responsibility seriously."
The woman received a minimum 12 month driving disqualification and will appear in the Devonport Court at a later date for drinking driving and driving whilst under the influence charges.
