Work Health and Safety Excellence Awards winners announced 28 October

  • Work Health and Safety Excellence Awards 2022 winners announced
  • The Awards recognise outstanding solutions to workplace health and safety issues
  • The eight winners of the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety's prestigious Work Health and Safety Excellence Awards 2022 were announced today at the State Reception Centre, and include:

    • The Work Health and Safety Invention of the Year (199 employees or less) - Heat Trap Solutions for developing a small compact cooler to provide chilled water for water-cooled vests;
    • Work Health and Safety Invention of the Year (200 employees or more) - BHP for producing the thermal lance feeder that minimises hazards when releasing a stuck object in a crusher;
    • Best Solution to a Work Health and Safety Risk (199 employees or less) - Nexxis for Magneto-EX, a robot used for inspection, repair and maintenance tasks in confined spaces;
    • Best Solution to a Work Health and Safety Risk (200 employees or more) - Monadelphous for poly weld stands with ergonomically correct positioning;
    • Best Intervention to address a psychosocial hazard in the workplace (199 employees or less) - Lifeline WA for collaborating with Chamber of Minerals and Energy WA to co-design the peer support initiative 'Resourceful mind';
    • Best Intervention to address a psychosocial hazard in the workplace (200 employees or more) - City of Rockingham for 'CORE wellness', a targeted approach to identify and minimise the risks of psychosocial hazards in the workplace;
    • Leadership Excellence Award - Al-Ameen for its 'Work health and safety campaign', resulting in improved worker wellbeing and a reduction in incidents; and
    • Health and Safety Representative of the Year - Tony Booth from Cecil Andrews College for improving workplace safety and demonstrating the benefits of health and safety representatives for all workplaces.

    As stated by Acting Industrial Relations Minister Tony Buti:

    "These prestigious Awards recognise outstanding workplace health and safety management, solutions and innovations in workplaces across resources and general industries.

    "This year's entrants have come from a wide range of industries and from businesses of all sizes, and the finalists have all set a standard to which other business leaders can aspire to.

    "My sincere congratulations to all the Award winners on your commitment to the health and safety of all Western Australian workers."
