Work to begin on Scotts Creek Bridge

MidCoast Council

Work on Scotts Creek bridge is expected to begin Wednesday 7 September, weather permitting.

The first stage of repairs on Scotts Creek Bridge is planned to start on 7 September. Works are needed to ensure the bridge can provide safe road access to Mitchells Island.

While every effort will be made to maintain single-lane traffic conditions, there may be lengthy delays over the next four weeks as galvanised steel beams are installed.

The second stage of works will start in late 2022 or early 2023 and will involve further design, additional strengthening works and concrete repairs.

"The work is necessary because of deterioration in this 1960s bridge," said Executive Manager Transport and Engineering, Peter Gesling.

"Engineers analysed the bridge in July 2021 after routine maintenance checks showed some cracking and deterioration in the concrete. Remediation work will focus on strengthening the load-bearing capacity of the bridge," he added.

Council appreciates the community's patience while these major works to the bridge are undertaken.
